WASHINGTON, June 17, 2017 – Supreme Cuisine, a Montgomery City, Mo. establishment, is recalling approximately 325,000 pounds of meat and poultry fat and lard products due to a processing deviation, which may result in the potential growth and survival of bacterial pathogens in the products, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced today.
The duck, beef and pork fat and lard items were produced and packaged from June 1, 2016 through May 8, 2017. The products have a one-year shelf life.
Attached is a list of the products subject to this recall. [View Labels (PDF Only)]
The products subject to recall bear establishment number “EST. 34595” or “P-34595” inside the USDA mark of inspection. These items were sold through the internet and shipped to retail locations nationwide.
The problem was discovered after the firm received a consumer complaint of a loose lid from an internet customer.
There have been no confirmed reports of adverse reactions due to consumption of these products. Anyone concerned about an injury or illness should contact a healthcare provider.
Consumers who have purchased these products are urged not to consume them. These products should be thrown away.
FSIS routinely conducts recall effectiveness checks to verify recalling firms notify their customers of the recall and that steps are taken to make certain that the product is no longer available to consumers. When available, the retail distribution list(s) will be posted on the FSIS website at www.fsis.usda.gov/recalls.
Consumers with questions about the recall can contact Epic Consumer Relations, at (844) 370-1971. Media with questions about the recall can contact Rob Litt at (763) 764-6364.

Announcement

United Pet Group, a division of Spectrum Brands, Inc. is voluntarily expanding its recall of multiple brands of packages of rawhide dog chew products to include our retail partners’ private label brands. The recall involves the brands and products described below.
United Pet Group previously initiated a voluntary recall of its branded products on 6/10/17 which included the following brands: American Beefhide, Digest-eeze, and Healthy Hide (including Healthy Hide – Good -n- Fun and Healthy Hide – Good -n- Fit).
The recall was initiated after  United Pet Group identified that certain of its rawhide chew manufacturing facilities located in Mexico and Colombia, as well as one of its suppliers in Brazil, were using a quaternary ammonium compound mixture as a processing aid in the manufacturing of rawhide chews. The compound is an anti-microbial chemical that is approved for cleaning food processing equipment, but it has not been approved in the U.S. as a processing aid in the production of rawhide chews for dogs.
United Pet Group received very limited reports of pet illness based on the volume of possibly affected rawhide chew products manufactured and distributed. The primary complaint received from consumers was that the affected product had an unpleasant odor. Diarrhea and vomiting were also reported.
Exposure to quaternary ammonium compounds through direct ingestion may cause the following symptoms in dogs: reduced appetite and gastric irritation, including diarrhea and vomiting. These symptoms may require treatment by a veterinarian depending on severity.
The affected product was distributed nationwide from United Pet Group’s Edwardsville, Illinois distribution facility and was delivered to consumers through various retail establishments, including online outlets. All of the dog chew products included in the voluntary recall identify an expiration date ranging from 06/01/2019 through 5/31/2020 located on the  back of the package with the exception of the Enzadent and Dentahex products which are listed by UPC codes below and specific expiration dates outlined below.

Announcement

Vitakraft Sun Seed Inc. of Weston, OH, is voluntarily recalling certain Sunseed Parrot Fruit & Vegetable diet and Sunseed SunSations Rabbit Food due to a potential Listeria monocytogenes contamination.  Listeria monocytogenes is an organism, which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy individuals may suffer only short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headaches, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea. Listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women.
Listeria monocytogenes are present in the gut of birds and rabbits.   Household pets such as birds and rabbits carry a risk to humans. Even if the birds and rabbits do not appear to be sick after consuming foods containing Listeria monocytogenes, they can become carriers of Listeria monocytogenes and transfer Listeria monocygenes to the environment.
Vitakraft Sun Seed was notified on June 14, 2017 by its supplier of dried apples that the ingredient has the potential to be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes. Although there has been no reported evidence of direct contamination of the dried apples, our supplier has initiated the recall. To date there have been no report of any illness.

The steamed scomber fish were distributed nationwide through retail stores.  The product comes in a clear plastic wrapped styrofoam tray, containing two whole fish inside with a red label marked “product of thailand”.  The product upc code is 040459097206.
The recall was initiated after routine sampling by new york state department of agriculture and markets food inspectors and subsequent analysis by nys food laboratory revealed the product was not properly eviscerated prior to processing.
The sale of uneviscerated fish is prohibited under new york state agriculture and markets regulations because clostridium botulinum spores are more likely to be concentrated in the viscera than any other portion of the fish.  Uneviscerated fish have been linked to outbreaks of botulism poisoning.  Symptoms of botulism include dizziness, blurred or double vision and trouble with speaking or swallowing.  Difficulty in breathing, weakness of other muscles, abdominal distension and constipation may also be common symptoms.  People experiencing these problems should seek immediate medical attention.
No illness have been reported to date in connection with this problem.
Consumers who have purchased packages of steamed scomber fish are urged to return them to the place of purchase for a full refund. Consumers with questions may contact the company at 718-386-3053.

Announcement

The Kroger Co. (NYSE: KR) today announced it has expanded the recall of its 12 oz. packages of Simple Truth Dry Roasted Macadamia Nuts due to potential Listeria monocytogenes contamination.  Listeria monocytogenes is an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. In May, we were informed by the supplier that the macadamia nuts used in this product may have the potential to be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes. Routine sampling of a different item produced by the supplier for another company revealed positive Listeria monocytogenes results, and a subsequent investigation of the manufacturing environment discovered a contaminated piece of equipment.

The product comes in a 12 oz., clear plastic package marked with expiration dates of:  Dec. 09, 2017, Mar. 02, 2018, Mar. 03, 2018, or Apr. 07, 2018 stamped on the side. Product was distributed between 12/9/2016 to 6/13/2017.  Kroger has removed the following item from store shelves and initiated its customer recall notification system that alerts customers who may have purchased recalled products through register receipt tape messages and phone calls.
